SUMMARY

Mr. Prashanta Kumar Shill is working as faculty in the Journalism and Media Studies department, at Port City International University, Chattogram, Bangladesh. He holds his degrees from The University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. He is handling courses like Photojournalism, Web Journalism, Feature Writing, Contemporary World Affairs, Editing, Research Methodology, and Global Journalism.  Earlier, he worked as a research assistant at Oxfam Bangladesh and a sub-editor at an online newspaper in Chattogram. His interdisciplinary research is focused on applying Media, Information, and Communication Technology (ICT) for Sustainable Development, Photojournalism, Web Journalism, Media Diplomacy, and so on. He has published/ presented many research papers in national and international journals/ conferences. He has visited countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, India, Nepal, and Bhutan for presenting research papers at international conferences and project works.

He has organized more than 50 social, environmental, health issues, and food security events. The events were organized with Oxfam Bangladesh and UNFPA Bangladesh.

Research:

His research interest involves using media for development with a solution and rights-based framework among disadvantaged communities. His research emphasizes on the importance and relevance of concepts like participatory and inclusive media, positive storytelling for social change, and positive deviance for development. His current research project is in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates government project titled Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory in Sustainable tourism development and the opportunities and challenges of Bangladesh tourism.

Specialization

Trained by the BMC Training Center, Dubai, UAE. His expertise includes developing need-based tailor-made media courses for specialized groups. He has served as an expert in media for development, gender sensitization, and media literacy workshops and training. Skilled in documentary production, he has directed documents for national and international agencies on gender and development-related issues.
