As a founder of Port City International University, it gives me immense pleasure to write a few words about the progress and development of this university. We have chosen Chittagong Metropolitan City to establish our institution because of its historical, economic and global importance. One of our main objectives was to create a global standard university in this region. We actually want to make it an international center of excellence where there will be “no walls” to education. We believe in a knowledge based and creative society in which the peoples of all walks of life will be able to contribute to the sustainable development of this country.

We have adopted a policy of “equal opportunity to all” irrespective of caste, religion, culture and nation. Our vision is to make it a “University for all” where students will be able to learn at an affordable cost and monetary constraints will not deter the students from access to higher education. We have already introduced a huge number of scholarships in different categories including Freedom fighters, meritorious, poor, tribal and socially disadvantaged people. In addition, Begum Ashrafunnesa Foundation named after my mother (deceased member of the Board of Trustees) has been contributing a substantial amount of money towards students’ scholarships and other social works of this university in each trimester.

Everybody will be surprised to see the progress we have made in such a short time. Started with a negligible number of students and Faculty we have now more than 6000 students and 150 permanent Faculty. In addition, different academics of international repute from DU, CU, CUET and other organizations have been working as Adjunct Faculty. Currently, we are running 21 programs under 11 departments. We have already created state of the art Laboratories, Classrooms and e-Library. A Center for Training & Development has been established in order to excel skills and boost up the confidence of the new Faculty.

We are committed to provide the best education possible to our students and make them worthy citizens capable of facing the challenges of the ever changing world. Students Counseling Program, Credit Transfer, Career Placement Center, Academic Exchange Program, Students’ Exchange Program are few examples of our activities that we have been doing to make Port City International University a center of excellence in higher education and research. Besides these, students are engaged in different other activities including participating in cultural program, indoor and outdoor sports, debate, robotics and programming competitions.

As you know, ‘Rome was not built in a day’ but we have been sincerely trying to build this institution as a truly international university and we have already been linked up to a number of universities abroad. Our permanent campus at Kalpalok will be a unique and monumental one with all modern facilities needed for a global standard institution. Let us work together for a better future.
