Journalism faculties participated National Conference and Curriculum Symposium on Communication for Development

Two faculties including coordinator of Journalism and Media Studies of Port City International University (PCIU) participated national conference and curriculum symposium on Communication for Development (C4D) on April 24 and 25, 2019. The events were organized by University Grants Commission (UGC) in association with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Dr. Mohammad Sahid Ullah, Coordinator of the dept. and Professor, Communication & Journalism, University of Chittagong, Ms. Dilruba Akter, Chair and Mr. Jewel Das, Senior Lecturer of the dept. of Journalism & Media Studies, PCIU were present at the events. The conference titled fostering communication for development research to achieve results for children was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka on 24 April.
Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh graced the conference as the Chief Guest. Chaired by Ms. Neha Kapil, C4D Section Chief, UNICEF, Bangladesh the programme was addressed among others by Ms. Shairose Mawji, Chief of Filed Services, UNICEF, Bangladesh and Associate Professor Dr. Andrew Carlson of Metropolitan University of USA. Dr. Mohammad Sahid Ullah was present as resource person in a C4D Plenary Discussion with Mr. Asif Saleh, Senior Director, Strategy, Communication and Empowerment, BRAC; Ms. Farah Kabir, Country Director, Action Aid, Bangladesh and Dr. Nicola Christofides, School of Public Health, Associate Professor, University of
Witwatersrand University of Witwatersrand (South Africa) and PCIU faculties attended different sessions on the conference day.
On the following day UGC, Bangladesh in association with United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Ohio University of USA jointly organized the curriculum symposium titled ‘Fostering C4D Curriculum to Achieve Results for Children’ to conduct research on social behavior changes for child rights in higher educational institutions of Bangladesh. Ms. Dilruba Akter and Mr. Jewel Das delivered presentation titled ‘An analysis of integrating C4D into journalism Curricula’ on behalf of PCIU and UNICEF, Bangladesh expressed its interest to collaborate with the Journalism dept. PCIU, in the context of C4D fieldwork and internship in future. Dr. Mohammad Sahid Ullah was present at the meeting sessions of organizers with Vice Chancellor of different public and private universities.
UGC Member Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Neha Kapil, C4D Section Chief of UNICEF in Bangladesh, Associate Professor Dr. Andrew Carlson of Metropolitan University of USA, Yasmin Khan, C4D specialist, academics from different public and private universities, PhD students and representatives from government, development agencies and UGC took part in the day-long workshop.
