Lecture session on ‘Free Media Theories and People –Focused Development Journalism’ organized by Journalism Department

 

Department of Journalism & Media Studies of Port City International University(PCIU) arranged a lecture session titled ‘‘Free Media Theories and People –Focused Development Journalism’ at its auditorium on August 5, 2019. Dr. Kalinga Seneviratne, Former Head of Research, Asian Media Information and Communication Center (AMIC), Singapore, Assistant Professor, Communication Arts faculty, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, international communication analyst and journalist graced the session as resource person. Prof. Dr. Md. Nural Anwar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Port City International University was present as Chief Guest whereas Prof. Dr. Mohammad Sahid Ullah, Professor, dept. of Communication & Journalism, University of Chittagong and Coordinator, Dept. of Journalism and Media Studies, PCIU, was present as special guest. The session was presided over by Ms. Dilruba Akter, Chair, dept. of Journalism & Media Studies and anchored by Mr. Prashanta Kumar Shil, Lecturer of the dept.

Dr. Kalinga emphasized on press freedom and practice of human centric journalism. He discussed about free media theories, crisis in press freedom, and practice of development journalism at the session. Resource person of the session also interacted with the students in an open discussion later. Mr. Mohammad Younus, Dean, faculty of Humanities, Law and Social Science, Mr. Jewel Das, Senior faculty of Journalism dept. also gave speech at the session

Among others Prof. Engr. Dr. Mafzal Ahmad, Dean, faculty of Science & Engineering, Mr. Mohammad Younus, Dean, faculty of Humanities, Law and Social Science, Mr. Jewel Das, Senior faculty, Mr. Sana Ulla Hasan, other faculties and students were present. The session was ended with vote of thanks by the chairman.
