Journalism faculties participated at UNICEF workshop on Curriculum Design
Mr. Jewel Das, Chairman and Ms. Dilruba Akter, Lecturer, Department of Journalism and Media Studies of Port City International University, participated in a five day long workshop on curriculum development and conducting research on Communication for Development (C4D) jointly organized by United Nation's Children Fund (UNICEF) and University Grant Commission(UGC), Bangladesh at Brac Center for Development Management, Dhaka. It began on 24th June, 2018 and concluded on 28th June, 2018. UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan addressed the programme as the Chief guest. Neha Kapil, Section Chief, C4D, Bangladesh delivered welcome remarks. Waithira Gikonyo, Senior Learning Advisor, UNICEF, David H. Mould, Professor Emeritus, Ohio University, among others, spoke on the opening and certificate giving ceremony. 30 academicians from different renowned public and private universities, UGC & UNICEF officials took part in the workshop. Academicians designed 10 module on C4D in groups at the workshop. Before the workshop, participants completed 6 weeks e-learning workshop on C4D. David H. Mould, Professor Emeritus, Ohio University, Andrew Carlson, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Communication, Writing and the Arts, Metro Politan State University, USA, Suruchi Sood, Associate Professor, Dept. of Community Health and Prevention Control, Drexel University were the facilitators at the workshop. They discussed on different C4D issues like theories, process, models on C4D, participatory research methods, social norms, monitoring and evaluation, gamification, disaster management, emergency response, rohingya crisis, ICT and social mediaAmong others, Aynul Kabir(MOWCA), Patric Coleman, John Hopkins University, Zakia Akhter, Directorate General of Family Planning, Bangladesh, Juanita Vasquez Escallon(UNICEF) were present to discuss on building partnerships with development organizations, government agencies and NGOs for field practice, internships and jobs. It was a great platform indeed!
