Seminar on ‘Short Film Movement and Chattogram’ by Journalism department
"We want to have a platform for creating a proactive environment of making films in Chittagong once our local film industry and film enthusiasts get enough support," said the speakers at a seminar hosted by Port City International University on February 28, 2022. A seminar entitled "Short Film Movement and Chattogram" was held by the university's Department of Journalism and Media Studies in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Prof. Dr. Md. Nural Anwar, Vice Chancellor of PCIU, was the Chief Guest while Mr. Shaibal Chowdhury, Director of the Chittagong Film Centre, delivered the keynote address. The event was presided over by Ms. Dilruba Akter, Chairman, Dept. of Journalism & Media Studies, PCIU.
Mr. Shaibal Chowdhury emphasized the history of Chattogram's short film movement, as well as the campaign's origins in Bangladesh and its achievements and failures, in his speech. Mr. Prashanta Kumar Shill, Lecturer, Department of Journalism and Media Studies anchored the program whereas Mr. Jewel Das, Assistant Professor of the dept. delivered welcome speech at the inception of seminar. The seminar was arranged as an academic part of Film Theory & Appreciation course.
Dr. Mohammad Sahid Ullah, Professor, Department of Communication and Journalism, University of Chittagong, spoke at the seminar as a Special Guest, discussing the impact of film on society and encouraging students to pursue studies including film making workshops and tanning. Prof. Engineer. Dr. Mafzal Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Science and Engineering and Director of IQAC, PCIU, Prof. Dr. Fasiul Alam, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies, Mr. Mohammed Younus, Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law were among the distinguished guests.
Among others,Proctor, Coordinator of Debate Forum, Mr. Aziz Ahmed and Mr. Aquib Ul Wadud Alam, faculties and students of the dept. were present at the seminar..Ms. DilrubaAkter, Chairman, Department of Journalism and Media Studies concluded the program by giving the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the university for helping organize such event. Students were highly motivated through the discussion of the seminar.
